The farthest west I have ever been was Arizona, to visit family, so planning this trip that spanned across 8 states and roughly 16 days was huge.
We started in Huntsville, AL to meet up with our friends and head west towards Amarillo, TX.
Next up was Arizona: Our first official campsite
We stayed at White Horse Lake, which was actually amazing. Really relaxed and low maintenance camp hosts, who were also very helpful, and our campsite was right on the lake. I would definitely recommend this site to anyone wanting to remain low key or get some fishing in. We also made our way to Sedona, and Red Rocks Crossing swimming hole.
There’s a few swimming holes to choose from in AZ, especially in the Sedona area, and the one we initially wanted to go to, Fossil Creek, was packed!
Usually, whenever you want to visit a state park or a swimming hole you have to first contact http://www.recreation.gov a week in advance in order to obtain a permit and more and more natural attractions are requiring permits now, so Fossil Creek was booked for the next couple of days.
We visited this website, did a little research and found that Red Rocks Crossing was probably one of the least “touristy” swimming holes in the area, so we decided to go that route.
On our way out to Yosemite we headed to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and it was an awesome way to say good bye to Arizona!
